I finally realize a greater damage that global warming has done to us.
I mean.. Christmas with no snow? Are you kidding?

Day 5: Vienna

To start, I give you the picture above because that was how Vienna welcome us in the morning. We actually arrived in the middle of the night, went straight to our hotel, Ibis Budget Wien Sankt Marx, and had a rest. It was very tiring indeed, noting that we were sleeping on our way to Munich on previous day, spend a whole day walking around Munich, and arrived in Vienna late in midnight. It was so quiet since it was midnight but the bus station location to the hotel was so close so we were not worry that much.

Sadly, we cannot keep our luggage in the hotel (we thought we could!) so we decided to keep our luggage first in the bus station (quiet troublesome since we could only deposit coins while all we had was paper money). Well, we managed to keep it safe and so the journey begins. It was December 24th, and surprisingly, the sun came out so bright to the point that at some moment, I could take off my jacket. It was just.. where is the snow?

That was what I imagined when I planned to visit Vienna on that winter season. But sadly, there was no snow at all but instead a bright sun. That’s why, I was also questioning whether it was winter or summer. Huh?

Well well well, we moved on and enjoy the day anyway. We started with visiting St. Stephen’s cathedral and it was majestic! The details on the roof, the on progress building, the crowd, the winter festive, it was lovely. Here are some pics to show you how majestic it was ! (Yes the picture in the beginning was also part of the cathedral).

We strolled around the area, and visited the souvenir store. Continuing from my previous solo trip, I still collect a push-pin from every city I visited and Vienna’s was among one that is very lovely. I was also very tempted to buy a music box since several well-known musician came from Vienna but I decided to not buy any of it since… I have limited money already hahahaha

The cathedral was so big that we walked for several minutes and we though we were going away from the cathedral but turns out we were just circling it. At some part of the side area of the cathedral, there were many horse-drawn carriage and also a lovely sightseeing of another part of the cathedral. let’s see

It was quiet crowded, obviously since the next day was the Christmas day. The warm sunshine accompanied our journey and so we continue to find another interesting place to visit. We decided to go to an amusement park, The Wurstelprater, or also called as Prater. We took an underground lines since from the beginning we already purchased a 24-hour pass which cost 8EUR.

There was nothing much to do in the area. Well, there were several rides you could take, but for us, since we had limited time we just stroll around the area, seeing mouth-watering foods, enjoying the breeze of winter until we find ourselves feeling hungry. We looked for a near restaurant around and we found this all you can eat Chinese food! Asian food! 😍😍 The name of the restaurant was Ginza Coming Sushi. The price for all you can eat was 8.5EUR/pax and the variety of food was quiet a lot. Sorry, I guess I was too much enjoying the food that I forgot to take at least just one picture 🙏😅

Well, moving on, we realized that there’s nothing much to see in Vienna. Actually if you google “where to go in Vienna”, you’ll see many suggestion. However, I guess I got to the point of getting bored already that while traveling in the capital city of any countries in Europe, sites to visit are either a grand church, cathedral, palace, war memorial sites, and those typical building and that is why I said nothing much to see because it’s just like in any other place. But since we were there anyway and our bus to the next stop is late in midnight, we stroll around the city once again. Well, we found another side of the city that is not any less beautiful.

Vienna that day was so warm — as said in the title of this story. It was winter, it was Christmas day. I am not celebrating Christmas and neither I have been to countries with 4 seasons previously. However, from what I saw on TV, websites, and many others, it is usually snowing on a Christmas day. It shocked and kinda disappoint me that I did not get to enjoy snow on Christmas day in these cities. I mean.. don’t you see how beautiful it is if you google “Christmas in Vienna”. I realized this is one of the reason why most movement for global warming come from the western or at least country with 4 seasons. Me back home who will only experience dry and rainy season, does not really get the difference of before and after global warming. Although the temperature of my hometown has slightly increasing compared to when I was born, but I didn’t really notice as “ah, this is global warming” until I really am experiencing it in a country that supposedly has snow, but the snow does not come.

Nevertheless, I feel it and thankyou Vienna. We continue the journey of strolling around the town and here are some random pics I (or mbak Citra) took.

Moving to our next destination, we took a 3 hours bus ride. It was very quick, and a pleasant trip thanks to Flixbus haha. Anyway, before we go at 8am, we get to enjoy some views of Vienna at Night. It was very beautiful.

Here, enjoy the pics and goodbye! See you in next destination!

Love,
Ann🤍
