9 — A Letter for Sometime Future Me.
All of the previous eight letters have been consistently addressed to the past us, even with a difference of just 24hrs. However this month, I totally feel like writing to the future me — not a warning, rather a reminder of what I learned this month and hope this serve as a help, as a validation, as a reminder for whatever happens to the future me.
I just have 3 simple things I want to say to you,
First, normalize not wanting to be around certain people anymore because of the way they make you feel. It does not matter whether you share the same background, or if you share the same burden — if that person is ignorant enough to be empathetic, it is okay to set a distance to save yourself. Do not let identity blocks you from being yourself, from having the freedom to choose differently from what most people with the same identity choose. Some people are just not your cup of tea, and so do you won’t always fit in everyone’s cup either. Remember that not everyone can please you, and you cannot please everyone either. Be okay to set a distance from those people who makes you feel bad.
Second, life keeps on going regardless of what’s happen and so in the other word, not everything is the end of the world. Things may go bad, things may take unexpected turns that left us shocked. Things may also suddenly be bright and rainbow, things may present us with a gift we never know we could have. So, twofold, when something bad is happening suddenly, something good can also happen suddenly. When you feel like you’re having a bad day, it is okay, it’s just a bad day and not a bad life.
Third, slow down. Life is no competition with anyone and only by slowing down, you will realize that many things could actually wait. Only by slowing down, you will start noticing those around you, you will notice the progress you have made, and thus only by slowing down you will appreciate time more, even better. Slow down in life, and connoisseur every second in life as it won’t come back.
I hope you’re having a good time and here’s a recent picture of the city I am currently in because I bet you miss this. Lund.
